Meet Kavneet Kour: The Rising Star of Indian Roll Ball Skating

Kavneet Kour

From a quiet city nestled in the heart of Jammu to the grand international arenas of South Asia, Kavneet Kour story is one of raw passion, relentless effort, and unwavering belief in a dream. Today, she’s known as a powerful force in the world of Roll Ball — an international athlete who carries the pride of India with every spin and slide on her skates. But her journey didn’t begin in a spotlight — it began with a spark in a young girl’s heart.

A Glimpse of Destiny

Kavneet’s tryst with skating started when she was just 11 years old. It wasn’t a planned path. One day, while accompanying her father to Jammu’s Maulana Azad Stadium, her eyes caught a group of kids gracefully gliding on skates. Something clicked. It was love at first sight — not for a person, but for a sport that would soon shape her life.

Inspired and eager, she joined the same academy shortly after. From her first lesson, Kavneet embraced skating with all her heart. She began her career as a speed skater, pouring hours of practice into mastering every twist and turn of the wheels. Her discipline and natural skill quickly bore fruit, winning her several gold medals in district and state-level competitions. With every victory, her ambition grew.

Gold at the Start Line

In 2006, at just 12 years of age, Kavneet was selected for her first national championship in Pune. It was a defining moment — and she seized it with both hands, clinching the gold medal. That victory wasn’t just a win; it was a breakthrough. The medal wasn’t merely metal — it was a message from the universe that she was meant for more.

This triumph became the turning point in her life. It gave her the confidence to dream bigger and strive harder. Kavneet began exploring other branches of skating — including roller hockey and, most notably, Roll Ball, a unique sport that combines the speed of skating with the dynamics of basketball and handball. She shone not just in one role, but in many — playing both front and defense, adapting to both quad and inline skates, and continuing to medal consistently across disciplines.

Falling in Love with Roll Ball

Among all the forms of skating, Kavneet’s heart ultimately settled on Roll Ball. The pace, the teamwork, and the adrenaline — everything about it resonated with her. She dedicated herself fully to this sport, competing in numerous national championships and winning hearts and trophies alike.

But 2017 was the year everything changed.

At a national championship held in Belgaum, Karnataka, the selection for the South Asian Roll Ball Championship was underway. Scouts from across the country were evaluating players for the prestigious event set to take place in Kathmandu, Nepal. With her stellar defense skills and calm presence on the field, Kavneet stood out immediately. She was shortlisted in the very first phase — a moment that brought her closer to her international dream.

From Jammu to the World Stage

The journey wasn’t over yet. The second phase of the selection took place in Rajasthan, where only the top 12 players would be chosen to represent India. The competition was fierce — but Kavneet was fiercer. She didn’t just make the team — she became one of its strongest pillars. When she finally wore the tricolor as part of the Indian national team, it was a surreal moment for her and everyone who had witnessed her rise from humble beginnings.

In Kathmandu, she played as a front player — fast, focused, and fearless. The Indian team dominated the championship, eventually winning gold. Kavneet’s dream had finally come true. And the best part? She was just getting started.

A Journey of Grit and Glory

Since that golden victory, Kavneet has continued to grow as an athlete and a person. Her dedication to the sport, despite limited resources and infrastructure back home, is nothing short of inspirational. She represents what true sportsmanship looks like — skill backed by soul, and ambition rooted in humility.

What makes her story even more compelling is how grounded she remains. Despite international success, she never forgets where it all started — the academy at Maulana Azad Stadium, her first coach, and her father’s quiet encouragement that led her to the skating rink. Today, she uses her platform not just to win medals, but to inspire other young girls in Jammu and beyond to dream fearlessly and chase those dreams with everything they’ve got.

The Road Ahead

As of now, Kavneet continues to train and represent India in Roll Ball championships. Her goal? To take Indian skating to new heights, and to one day bring home a world championship title. With her unmatched discipline, passion, and love for the sport, that dream feels closer than ever.

In a country where sports beyond cricket often struggle for recognition, Kavneet Kour is carving a path not just for herself but for an entire generation of skaters. Her journey reminds us that talent knows no boundaries — and when passion meets perseverance, magic happens.

We wish her all the best in her upcoming tournaments. The world is watching, and so is the nation — cheering for the girl who turned wheels into wings.
